Hello Bright Light,

Do you know that the use of evergreen trees, wreaths, and garlands to symbolize eternal life was a custom of the ancient Egyptians, Chinese, and Hebrews? Or that in centuries past, in some traditions, decorating an evergreen tree was considered to be a magical act of calling in the (omit the) prosperity, fertility, good health and happiness in the new year?

If you use evergreens or other forms of decorations or rituals as part of your celebration of this festive and blessed season, consciously thinking positive thoughts and prayers as you transform your environment or otherwise prepare for the holidays can be an especially wonderful way to “call in” the magic of the new year!

Although we won't be decorating a tree together during tonight's virtual Winter Solstice Ceremony, we will share a very ritual element called the "Cosmic Walk", based on the "Universe Story" written by Larry Edwards.

Happy Winter Solstice and may the pure light within you, guide your way on.

WINTER SOLSTICE: GIFTS IN THE DARKNESS

Great white sound,
color of crystalline snow
echoes in the soul’s ear,
calling those who might
into this darkest night.

Silent forest.
Deep mystery.
Frozen earth.

Enter the cave of Winter’s
still embrace.
She will take your hurried, frantic
too-busy mind and body
and lay it down.

In this secret chamber
her meteorite stove
and the heat of stars
will warm your spirit bones,
as you finally allow surrender
into the ringing silence.

Be not afraid of such fertile darkness.

Worn creases will melt away.
Divine patterns will reveal true and lasting gifts.
All that you have learned
as past seasons turned
shall be offered as essence
on a full moon platter,
each wisdom pearl glistening and wrapped
in red, green, and gold.

Open eternal presents in your darkness now.
Prepare for the sun to rise in you at dawn.
