Hello Bright Light!Â
Â
Today is winter solstice here in the northern hemisphere. The shift towards the longest and
darkest night of the year has been unmistakable! My vibrant begonia flowers, once full of life and color, withered overnight when the temperature dipped below freezing. The forest has surrendered to winter’s stillness, quietly resting in the cold. More often than not, the skies over my home in the Pacific Northwest are gray and the light is dim even during the day.
Â
In moments like these, when a literal or metaphorical darkness is upon us, it’s not always easy to maintain well-being or keep the creative, active light of love alive. Whether it’s the heaviness of gray skies, the awareness of suffering—our own or that of those we love—or the weight of global uncertainties, the darkness can feel oppressive.
Â
Keeping the light of love alive takes intentional creativity and a willingness to engage with what we often wish to avoid. For many of us this means cultivating an ongoing spiritual practice to reconnect with a deeper truth when thought storms pull us away from presence in the now. For me, this means calling in the LIGHT—both literally and metaphorically.Â
Â
My home is aglow with twinkling Christmas lights (I call fairy lights✨). I’ve been nesting by candlelight, cooking, reading, creating art, watching movies, bundling up for winter walks, and spending time with friends. Simple human rituals like these can create a warm and bright sanctuary, a temporary refuge from the cold and dark. But a deeper, longer lasting awareness of an inner LIGHT is also
possible.Â
Â
The one thing that matters most to me is cultivating a Higher Self (Soul)-aligned state of consciousness—a conscious attunement to and absorption in the light of love. I call this living in the Sanctuary of Awakening—a space and state of being where we find refuge, peace, presence, and perspective amidst life’s
intensities.
